No "Collector's Edition" Decals?
If you wanted an early production Ford GT, the price for number "10" may have you clutching your wallet. Ford has auctioned the first production Ford GT, and donated the $557,500 proceeds of the sale to various charities.
Jay Leno drove one of the first three production prototypes onto the podium at the annual Christies Auction in Monterey, California, this past August. The car displayed is for internal use, and bidders were vying for Ford GT chassis number "10," the first Ford GT sold to a customer. The undisclosed winner gets to pick his choice of color and options when the car actually goes to production in the spring. The Ford GT - which will arrive as a 2005 model in the first half of 2004-is heavily inspired by the GT4O which placed 1-2-3 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.
