Brannan-Hammes All Ford South a huge success

Rich LaMont receives life achievement award

With a special invitation from Ford drag racing legend Dick Brannan, the 422 Motorsports team traveled to Cumming, Georgia this past weekend to participate in a celebration of all things Ford. The team cars of Rich LaMont (Thunderbolt), Charlie Morris (Lightweight Galaxie), Dave Powers (Dyno Don Comet) and Bill Asamura (Ugly Duckling "Dyno Don" Comet station wagon) shared the beautiful forty acre Cumming, Georgia fairgrounds with hundreds of the finest Fords to be found anywhere. Special guests, the O'Connor brothers added their beautiful 61 Starliner to our display along with the freshly restored 63 427 Galaxie "The Liveliest one" of Brian Gerken, the 1962 Comet of Ken Havens, the T-Bolt of Skip Davis and the 63 427 Galaxie 500XL convertible of Dave Schoeler, which remarkably, was driven all the way from New Jersey to share the fun.

A little 422 Motorsports surprise came in the form of the 1963 lightweight Galaxie tribute car of Leo Sekulski. With permission from Al Joniec, team member Paul DeNick of Grizzly Graphics lettered the Galaxie in the fashion of the S/S Ford that Al ran in 1963 with Al Swenson Ford sponsorship. A special unveiling of the car was arranged and to say that Al was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Leo's car would be an understatement.

Our own "Fast Fred" Henderson and Rich LaMont were among the large gathering of Ford drag racing notables which included; Tommy Grove, Butch Leal, Hubert Platt, Phil Bonner, Bill Holbrook, Charlie Gray, Sam Auxier Jr. Mike Gray, Bruce Sizemore, Dickie Estevez, Jerry Hammes and of course Dick Brannan participating in two autograph sessions over the weekend much to the delight of the thousands of fans in attendance.

In a special Saturday afternoon ceremony covered by local radio Rich LaMont was the recipient of a lifetime achievement award recognizing his five decade engine building career. Rich can lay claim to building the engines that power the quickest and fastest Nostalgia Super Stock Fords on the planet.

Warm weather, southern hospitality and hundreds of high quality examples of Ford history made for a great weekend. Our advice would be don't miss the second annual ALL FORD SOUTH CLASSIC. Photograph's of the event will be posted shortly.
