Edward N. Cole, GM President in 1969, called DeLorean off vacation and awarded him the top Chevy job. His immediate superior was Roger Kyes. The pair shared a mutual dislike. DeLorean recalls Kyes told the new boss of GM's volume division that he was not choice and warned: "I don't think you can do it. The minute you your ass, I'm gonna throw you out." Chevrolet rang up record during the DeLorean years. So did Pontiac.
