The red dot is the room I stayed at so I could watch the chartruse convertable all night. Staying awake was not a problem since Rome at the Spanish Steps is what it's all about. I was able to serve Mass at the church adjacent to the hotel. It was a dark and spooky place.

Panoramic Terrace in the 1940s
My first dinner in Rome in 1951 was an experience I will never forget since I memtion it almost 60 years later. The view. The shortage of food during WWII also prevailed in 1951.

During the summer season the Hassler Bar moves to the outdoor Palm Court, set in a tranquil garden surrounded by a wide variety of plants. Get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city for a drink or meal in this private slice of paradise.
This is where celebraties could enjoy themselves away from the public. For example I sat next to a table where Van Johnson was lunching. Did I go to his table and bother him? Or course not.
